Procedure
  1. Pull in the next piece of vinyl (frame or sash).
    1. Do not grab multiple units at the same time.
  2. Read the vinyl sticker checking for the following options: Main frame, No glass, Leave paper on tape, Vent right, NC, and screens.
  3. Check the vinyl sticker for the unit’s sequence and invoice number.
    1. For Main frame: do not pull the paper off the tape. Simply set the empty vinyl unit on the line.
    2. For No glass: do not pull the paper off the tape. Set the empty vinyl unit on the line.
    3. For leave paper on tape: do not pull the paper off the tape. Set the empty vinyl unit on the line.
    4. For Vent rights: Double check the orientation of the unit.
    5. For NC: Do not place an NFRC onto these units.
    6. For screens: See Screens in Final.
  4. For units missing either the glass or vinyl:
    1. For units missing glass: Turn the line alarm on, to call over your team lead or supervisor.
      1. After notifying your team lead or supervisor, place the empty vinyl unit onto the final belt.
    2. For units missing vinyl: Turn the line alarm on, to call over your team lead or supervisor.
      1. After notifying your team lead or supervisor, place the insulated unit into the designated remake rack.
  5. Pull the paper off the tape.
    1. Be sure the tape is correctly applied around the perimeter of the unit.
    2. Be sure to not damage the adhesive layer of the tape while removing the paper.
    3. Verify the tape extends around the entire unit and is unbroken.
The tape is used to help secure the unit in place and create a weather barrier. Good tape is vital in ensuring the unit's longevity.
  1. Check the unit for the proper blocking.
    1. See Blocking in Prep for more blocking information.
    2. Do not remove any blocks from the perimeter of the unit.
  2. Make sure the glass stickers sequence number and invoice number match with the vinyls sequence and invoice number.
  3. Check the glass unit for any voids, offset lites, or bad spacers.
    1. Any units offset more than 1/16” are rejectable.
    2. Any units with voids are rejectable. Voids will cause the glass unit to fail over time.
    3. Any spacer that protrudes more than ½” into the unit, is rejectable.
  4. For vents or PW: Place an NFRC label onto an AMSCO Sticker.
    1. Make sure the NFRC sequence number and invoice number match with both the glass and vinyl.
    2. For units too small for the AMSCO sticker, use a small removable sticker instead.
  5. For vents or PW: Place the AMSCO Sticker onto the glass unit.
    1. Be sure the sticker is straight and oriented correctly on the glass unit.
    2. Place the sticker about 4 inches in and 4 inches down from the top left corner of the unit.
  6. Grab your glass unit and check the glass sticker for the following options: Grids, hard coat, OBS, low-e, excessive hotmelt, and breather tube.
    1. For units with grids: See final grid guide.
    2. For units with hardcoat: set the unit with the hard coat surface away from you. Placing the hard coat on the inside of the house.
    3. For units with OBS: set the unit with the OBS surface away from you. Placing the OBS on the inside of the house.
    4. For units with excessive hotmelt: clean the unit or send it back to CGA before setting.
    5. for units with low-e, set the unit with the low-e lite towards you. Placing the low-e on the outside of the house.
    6. For units with breather tubes: place the breather tube so it is running down the side of the unit but does not reach the bottom of the unit.
      1. If the breather tube is going to reach the bottom of the unit, bend it near the top before running it down the unit. Be sure not to crimp the breather tube when bending it.
  7. Set the glass unit into the vinyl with the break in the spacer oriented towards the top of the unit.
    1. On VTs: use the lines squaring guide to keep the unit true.
    2. Make sure the glass is set completely on the white blocks.
    3. Make sure the vinyl was not distorted while setting the glass unit into it.
    4. Make sure the glass unit is centered all the way up and down the vinyl unit.
    5. If the tape is rolled while setting, the unit will need to be scraped and taped again.
    6. Make sure the glass unit is pressed back all the way into the vinyl.
    7. Make sure nothing is stuck in the tape (stickers, paper, etc.).
  8. Using the line's back lights, visually inspect the glass unit for any noticeable flaws.
    1. Reject any unit outside of AMSCO’s glass inspection criteria
  9. Place the set unit onto the belt.
    1. For vents and PW: If the set unit is taller than the 5th horizontal bar on the line, rotate the vent on the line.
    2. For DL units: rotate the unit so the portion of the unit with the DL glass is facing downward.
    3. Be sure not to cross the fins of windows when placing them on the line.
    4. When rotating, do not roll the fin or slam the unit onto the belt.
      1. Breaking the fin ruins the whole vinyl unit.
