Catching in Final

Catching in Final
Overview
To properly offload and sort windows off final lines 1 and 2 with two people.

Definitions
SV: Single vent. Slider windows that open and close horizontally.
SH: Single hung. Windows that open and close vertically.
            DL: Dead lite.

Procedure
With 2 people catching, the first person will perform steps 1-6. The second person will perform steps 7-13
  1. Pull the finalized frame off the belt and place it on the ground. As you handle it, check the overall quality of the unit.
    1. As you pull the frame off the belt, check the barcode for the windows sequence number.
  2. For SV or SH: Pull a finalized sash off the vent side of the line and verify that its sequence number matches that of the frame. As you handle it, check the overall quality of the unit.
  3. Check for and remove any remake stickers.
  4. For SV or SH: Put the sash into the frame. If the window is an SV, put the top of the sash inside the top of the cavity on the DL side of the window, and then press the bottom of the sash in and rest the sash on the windows track. For a single hung (SH), put the sash in on one side with the lock below the head of the frame, and the bottom of the sash above the balance spring boot, then put in the other side the same way. Make sure the sash is equal on both sides, then rest the sash on the springs making sure the sash catches both springs. The window should be opened, shut, and locked twice to verify proper function.
    1. To check the springs on a SH window, while unlatched allow the sash to sit all the way closed and then halfway closed without any pressure being applied. If the sash falls or climbs on its own, a new balance spring is needed.
    2. If the sash does not catch both springs when putting in a SH sash, it can cause the spring that is not caught to shoot up at the head of the frame. This can cause the frame to break and can also be the cause of injury if not done correctly.
  5. If the window is a PW, vent insert, no-glass, or main frame, do all the above checks except checking sash and lock function.
  6. Only pull one window off at a time.
    1. Do not stack windows on the line, or on the ground.
  7. While standing at the observation line, examine all aspects of the window.
    1. Pay special attention to grids, dirty glass, and rolled tape.
    2. Remove any remake labels if found (glass or frame).
  8. If any issues are found with the window, put it off to the side and notify your team lead.
  9. Place your built by label on the frame next to the barcode.
  10. Press up on the counter.
  11. Check the barcode for the destination of the window.
  12. Stack the window on the specified rack. All racks are marked by signs above the racks.
    1. Make sure the windows are stacked properly, putting frame against frame, and making sure the stack on each side goes generally from biggest to smallest going outside to inside.
    2. Put bumper pads as a barrier between any frame and the metal on the rack.
      1. Place pads on the windows as soon as they go onto the rack.
    3. Make sure there are pads between all paint and cap windows.
    4. Make sure the windows lean against the racks at an angle. They can tip and break easily otherwise.
  13. For Wrap, Mull, SDL, or WOCD Lock windows, place on a separate rack that is designated for these windows.
    1. Anything longer than 71.5’’ will be placed on a long cart instead of a grey rack.
    2. Anything 71.5’’ wide x 71.5” or more in height will also be placed on a long cart instead of a grey rack.
  14. For Custom Verify that all windows on the rack are going to the right location.
  15. For Stock: Verify that all the Tempered, Argon, Hardcoat, and Breather Tube units have the label on them indicating what they are.
  16. When a rack is full, use the pallet jack to take it out to the wall.
    1. Prior to using the pallet jack, make sure all windows on the rack are secure and will not tip over.
