Argon Overfill & Underfill and Audits
Overview
Properly fill and then audit argon-filled units.
Definitions
            Sparklike: A handheld argon checker
Procedure.

Argon Audits
  1. On the 7500, Lisec 1, Lisec 2, and Argon fill stations, check the argon level of the most recently run unit every thirty minutes.
  2. After checking the argon level, mark the side of the IG unit with an argon check sticker and fill out the Argon Check Log.
  3. For any testing questions, review the Sparklike Handheld Manual.
  4. The unit passes if it reads 90% argon or above.
  5. If the unit reads below 90%, test one unit before and the next unit after the low reading.
    1. Continue testing previously run units until all low units have been identified.
    2. If the next run unit is also low, stop and fix the problem.
  6. Units with readings below 80% need to be refilled to 90% or above.
    1. Place a red “LOW ARGON” tag on the harp and wheel it to an argon fill station.

Argon Overfill & Underfill

  1. Scan the barcode on the Argon OVF label.
    1. Verify that the information has been uploaded to the argon overfill/underfill machine.
  2. For Super Spacer units: Puncture the spacer space with the puncture tool, as shown in the picture.
SUP 1 (Argon)
  1. For IC units: The spacer already has an opening. Using the tool, insert the valve nipple into the spacer opening, as shown.
IC 1 (Argon)
  1. For Super Spacer units: Insert the argon needle through the puncture hole in the spacer.
    SUP 2 (Argon)
  2. For IC units: Insert the needle holding the nipple in place with the prong tool as shown.
    1. The tool must be used, as shown in the picture, to hold the nipple in place and keep it from falling into the unit as the needle is being inserted.

IC 2 (Argon)
  1. Press start to begin overfilling/underfilling the unit.
  2. For Super Spacer units: Remove the needle and immediately cover the puncture area with Teflon tape.
SUP 3 (Argon)
  1. For IC Units: Remove the needle by holding the nipple in place using the prong tool as shown.
IC 3 (Argon)
  1. For IC Units: After removing the needle, insert the valve into the nipple.
IC 4 (Argon)
  1. Break off the valve handle, leaving the valve tip in the nipple.
IC 5 (Argon)
  1. Seal the spacer opening with hot melt, ensuring all air gaps are filled with hot melt.
  2. When the cart is completed, place the cart in the CGA staging area for quality verification and sign-off.
