Scrape and Retape Windows in Prep

Scrape and Retape Windows in Final and Prep
Process:
Scrapping and retaping vinyl in final.

Definitions:
NFRC: The NFRC is a certification label typically applied to the AMSCO Label.
Zipper: A tool designed to cut glass units out of vinyl.
Harp: The blue or green carts that glass is stored on.
Pizza cutter: A tool designed to cut glass units out of vinyl.

Procedure:
  1. Immediately after the unit breaks, remove the bead with a chisel.
    1. If the bead had yet to be applied, get the bead, and place it with the unit.
  2. Remove glass label from broken unit and place it on the designated plexiglass.
    1. If the glass unit contains a grid, leave glass sticker on the unit.
  3. With a zipper or pizza cutter, cut the tape around the perimeter of the unit.
    1. Do not use bead to cut out the glass unit. Using bead ruins the bead and increases the risk of cutting yourself.
  4. If the broken unit has an NFRC, remove the NFRC and place it on the DL piece of glass.
    1. If there is not another piece of glass to place the NFRC on, store the NFRC at your line in the REMAKE portion of the NFRC box.
  5. Place broken unit into a designated u-cart.
    1. If the unit had a grid, place the unit back onto its original harp. The unit will be returned to the glass department so they can retrieve the grid.
  6. Place the now empty vinyl unit onto the prep belt.
  7. Scrape the sticky tape residue off the frame and place the unit onto the prep belt.
    1. Be sure to place the bead on the belt with the frame.
  8. Retape and block the window as needed.
  9. With shrink wrap, attach the bead to the side of the vinyl.
  10. The prep team lead will then match up all elements of the window and place it in the correct remake rack.
    1. For SH and SV, the finalized piece of the window will be stored at the end of the line.
