SH Sound Sash Prep

Overview:
The process for prepping single hung sound sash.

Definitions:
  1. Find all the three-sash needed for the final window.
    1. Secondary DL
    2. Secondary VT
    3. Primary VT
  2. Prep the sash in this order (Sec DL, Sec VT, Primary VT)
Secondary DL
  1. Place a sash cap at the top of both stile rails, 1” down from the weld flashing.
  2. Attach the sash caps with a silver #8 screw.
  3. Insert the latch into the predrilled latch cutout hole.
  4. Use a flat head screwdriver to help press the latch into the cutout.
    1. The cutout hole will be at the top of the vinyl unit.
  5. Install the sound latch spring between the rebar and the newly inserted latch.
  6. Use a flat head screwdriver to press the bottom of the spring into the latch cutout.
  7. Place the latch cover over the latch and around the cutout hole.
    1. Verify the latch cover snaps into place all around the latch cutout hole.
  8. Use a flat head screwdriver to clear the weather strip out from under the latch cover.
  9. Use #4 X 3/8” pan head screws to secure the latch cover to the vinyl.
  10. Verify the latch is working properly by operating it 2-3 times.
  11. Tape the perimeter of the secondary DL with skinny ¼” glazing tape.
  12. Block the sec DL with the skinny 1/2” white setting blocks.
    1. Do not use any black blocks when blocking the vinyl.
Secondary VT
  1. Place a sash cap at the top of both stile rails just down from the weld flashing.
  2. Attach the sash caps with a silver #8 screw.
  3. Insert the latch into the predrilled latch cutout hole.
  4. Use a flat head screwdriver to help press the latch into the cutout.
    1. The cutout hole will be at the bottom of the vinyl unit.
  5. Install the sound latch spring between the rebar and the newly inserted latch.
  6. Use a flat head screwdriver to press the bottom of the spring into the latch cutout.
  7. Place the latch cover over the latch and around the cutout hole.
    1. Verify the latch cover snaps into place all around the latch cutout hole.
  8. Use a flat head screwdriver to clear the weather strip out from under the latch cover.
  9. Use #4 X 3/8” pan head screws to secure the latch cover to the vinyl.
  10. Verify the latch is working properly by operating it 2-3 times.

  6. Use a flat head screwdriver to press the bottom of the spring into the latch cutout.
  7. Place the latch cover over the latch and around the cutout hole.
    1. Verify the latch cover snaps into place all around the latch cutout hole.
  8. Use #4 X 3/8” pan head screws to secure the latch cover to the vinyl.
  9. Verify the latch is working properly by operating it 2-3 times.
  10. Tape the perimeter of the secondary DL with thicker 3/8” glazing tape.
  11. Block the sec DL with 3/4” white setting blocks.
    1. Do not use any black blocks when blocking the vinyl.
