Window Taping Requirements
Process:
How to properly tape all frame and sash material.
Definitions:
Wet Glaze: Is a method of sealing the IG unit to the vinyl with silicone. See “Wet Glaze” process for more information.
Procedure:
-
Read the label to see if the window has any of the following options: DP-50, Secondary sound sash, or “WET GLAZE”.
- If the window has any of these options, use 3/32” X ¼” tape.
- If the window does not have any of these options, use 1/16” X 3/8” tape.
- Start taping at the top corner of the glazing leg.
-
Following the glazing leg, tape around the perimeter of the vinyl unit.
- Keep the tape within 1/32” to flush with the edge.
- The tape must applied straight with no waves.
-
At the corners, make a 45-degree fold.
- Do not stretch the tape on the corners.
- When you reach the beginning of the tape, cut the tape so it has a 1/8” overlap between the beginning and end.
- With cutters, peel the paper off a 2” section of the corner tape.
