Special Saws

Special Saws
Process:
The process of cutting different shapes in specials.
Definitions:
Procedure:
  1. Find the cart labeled with the color day that you’re working on. (Artisan material will come separately and may need to be slotted.)
  1. Get the paperwork for the same day from the box by the desk.
  1. Skip all the glass only units on the paperwork.
  1. Starting at slot A1, pull out all material one slot at a time. Each slot should contain all the material to build one frame.
  1. Lay the pieces on the table with the outside of the frame facing up.
  1. Find the windows sill and then with a grease pencil, write out the windows invoice number and overall size.
  1. Different configurations will need additional information. SV and SH windows will need the measurement for the mullion punch. CF windows will need the window configuration and the T-bar punch measurement.
  1. For flush fins the label will have to go under the fin.
  1. Begin laying out the material in the same pattern as your paperwork. You will have to measure pieces to make sure they are in the correct position.
  1. All lengths that don’t have two 45° angles, will come 3 3/16” longer than the paperwork indicates.
  1. As you are laying out your material, label all 45° angles with a “45”. Label all 45° angles that get welded to the sill with an “S” to signify that it will be welded on the 2-point welder.
  1. Once the material is all laid out, begin working your way around the shape cutting all lengths to the correct size and angle.
  1. All angles over 45° will need additional material added to the end because of the weld. Reference the cut sheet to see how much material needs to be added.
  1. When cutting a piece that needs both sides cut, be careful not to cut off too much material on the first cut or there will not be enough material for the second cut.
  1. Label all cut corners with the degree of angle cut.
  1. Place the label on the rail of the frame.
  1. Put all pieces for the frame you are working on into the same slot on a flat pigeonhole cart. If there are more pieces than can fit in one slot, then put them into an adjacent slot.
  1. Continue until all frames for the color you are working on are complete.
